Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be in crisis to start counselling?
No. Many people come to counselling during times of transition, uncertainty, or emotional overwhelm, even when they are not in crisis. You might simply feel that something needs attention, or that you would benefit from a space to pause and reflect.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a relaxed opportunity for us to meet and explore what has brought you to counselling. We will talk about your hopes for therapy, what feels important to you right now, and whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no obligation to continue beyond this session.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies for each person. Some people choose short-term counselling focused on a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term, open-ended therapy. We will review this together and move at a pace that feels right for you.
What is Gestalt counselling?
Gestalt counselling focuses on awareness and the present moment. Rather than analysing the past in detail, we explore what is happening for you here and now, helping you notice patterns, feelings, and needs with greater clarity and compassion.
Do I have to know what I want to talk about?
No. You do not need to arrive with clear words or a defined problem. Counselling can be a space to gently explore what feels unclear, confusing, or unsettled, at your own pace.
Do you work online or in person?
I offer both in-person sessions (Southampton) and online sessions via Zoom. This allows for flexibility and continuity, wherever you are based.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. The structure of sessions can be reviewed and adapted as therapy progresses.
What are your fees and how do I pay?
Sessions are £55. An initial consultation is £45. Reduced-fee sessions (£45) are available for students or clients receiving benefits, subject to availability. Payment is due before or at the end of each session by bank transfer or contactless card. Cancellation Policy: Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed sessions, are charged in full. Late arrivals do not extend session time.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. What you share in counselling is confidential. There are rare exceptions where information may need to be shared for safety or legal reasons, and wherever possible this would be discussed with you first.
Can I have counselling in French?
Yes. I am fluent in French and can offer sessions in French for clients who prefer it.
What should I do if I need urgent or emergency help?
Counselling is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or distress, please contact emergency services, your GP, or a crisis support organisation such as Samaritans (116 123 in the UK).
